We Have Won the Land is a bi-lingual play about land ownership and communities written by Toria Banks and directed by Muriel Ann MacLeod for Rural Nations. Designed to celebrate, promote and inform on the significance of community land ownership in Scotland today. In essence the play shows us what can happen when communities work together to take control of their own destiny. Although focusing on specific contemporary Scottish events leading to land purchase there are universal themes running throughout the work that have strong resonances with rural communities and city dwellers globally. What does it meant to collectively own the land of your forefathers? How should land be used? How can wild landscapes and people exist in harmony? What does ownership of land mean when many people in Britain cannot buy their own homes today?
I was invited to write incidental music and song for the play for live performance, and toured as a cast member.
